Eat What’s On Your Plate
The other day, my kids were at the table, already asking for more food before they’d even finished what was on their plates. I stopped them and said, "Y’all need to eat what’s in front of you first before asking for more." As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt GOD whisper, "And don’t you do the same thing?"
Whew.
How often do we ask GOD for more—more blessings, more opportunities, more clarity—while our plates are still full of things we haven’t even used? We’re so quick to move on to the next, but GOD is looking at us like, "You haven’t even done anything with what I already gave you."
We ask for a new job, but we haven’t been faithful in the one we have.
We pray for new relationships, but we haven’t nurtured the ones already in our lives.
We want more resources, but we haven’t stewarded what’s already in our hands.
Just like my kids, we keep reaching for more while ignoring what’s right in front of us.
GOD doesn’t operate on our timelines. He blesses us with what we need in each season, but we have to actually use it before we can expect more. Maybe that’s why some of us feel stuck—not because GOD isn’t answering, but because He’s waiting on us to fully embrace what He’s already provided.
Imagine sitting at a table full of food, hungry for more, but refusing to take a bite of what’s already there. It doesn’t make sense, right? But we do it in our spiritual lives all the time.
So today, I’m reminding myself—before I start asking for what’s next, I need to appreciate and maximize what’s now. GOD isn’t holding anything back from me; He’s just waiting for me to finish what’s already on my plate.
Maybe you’ve been praying for more, but GOD is gently saying, "Use what I’ve already given you first." So take a step back, look at what’s in front of you, and make the most of it. When the time is right, GOD will give you more—but only when you’re ready for it.
