Turn Your Head and Keep Going

I was sitting in my daughter’s karate class today, watching the kids take on an obstacle course. There were hurdles to jump over, cones to weave through, and at one point, a limbo stick standing just high enough for the little ones to duck under.

One boy, about four years old, took one look at that limbo stick and hesitated. "My head is too big to fit under," he said. He wasn’t being dramatic—he was just stating what he saw as a fact.

But the instructor wasn’t having it. “Go anyway,” he told him.

So, the little boy took off, running through the course. And sure enough, when he got to the limbo stick, he was right. His head was too big to fit underneath. He tried bending down, but there was no way through.

The instructor didn’t let him stop. Instead, he said, “Turn your head sideways and keep going.”

And that’s exactly what the little boy did. He turned his head to the side and squeezed through. It worked! He kept running, finishing the course while all the parents clapped and cheered him on.

A Lesson in Perspective

How many times do we face obstacles in life and immediately decide, I can’t do this? We see the challenge in front of us, measure it against what we think we’re capable of, and assume there’s no way forward.

But sometimes, the problem isn’t the obstacle itself—it’s our perspective. We get stuck on what won’t work instead of looking for what can.

That little boy had already made up his mind that the limbo stick was impossible. But the moment he was given a different way to look at it, he found his way through.

What If We Shifted Our Perspective?

How many times has GOD told us to keep going, even when things don’t seem to fit? When we don’t see a way forward? When we feel like what’s in front of us is impossible?

Maybe the answer isn’t that we need a different path. Maybe we just need to change how we’re looking at it.

  • That closed door? Maybe it’s a redirection, not rejection.

  • That unexpected challenge? Maybe it’s an opportunity to stretch and grow.

  • That thing you feel unqualified for? Maybe it’s where GOD wants to show you His strength.

Just like that little boy, you might feel like your “head is too big” for what’s in front of you. But instead of stopping, what if you just turned your head and kept going?

Keep Moving Forward

The moment that little boy crossed the finish line, he was met with applause. His face lit up, proud that he had finished what he thought was impossible.

I can’t help but think about how GOD cheers us on in the same way. Every time we push through fear, every time we trust Him in uncertainty, every time we shift our perspective and keep going—He’s there, encouraging us, clapping for us, reminding us that we were made to finish the race.

So today, if you’re facing something that seems impossible, I want to remind you:

  • Shift your perspective.

  • Try a new approach.

  • Keep moving forward.

The finish line is still ahead of you. And when you get there, you’ll see—it was possible all along.
