Is That Job Draining You
Have you ever been in a job where you felt stuck? Where every day felt the same, with no growth, no challenges, and no real push to become better? It’s frustrating, right? You clock in, do what’s expected, and go home—but deep down, you know you’re capable of more.
It’s one thing to have a job that pays the bills, but it’s another thing entirely to be in a place that pushes you to grow, challenges you, and brings out the best in you. When that’s missing, you start to feel like you’re just existing instead of thriving.
The Danger of Staying Stagnant
GOD created us for growth. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the parable of the talents—how the servant who buried his talent instead of multiplying it was rebuked. Why? Because GOD expects us to use and grow the gifts He gave us. When we stay in places that don’t encourage us to stretch, we risk becoming stagnant.
A job should do more than just provide a paycheck. It should inspire you to be better, do better, and strive for more. If your work environment isn’t cultivating your gifts, it may be time to ask yourself:
Am I learning anything new here?
Does this job challenge me to improve?
Am I surrounded by people who encourage my growth?
Do I feel valued and supported in my purpose?
If the answer is "no" more often than "yes," that’s a sign that something needs to shift.
Recognizing When It’s Time to Move
Sometimes, we hold onto jobs out of fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of losing stability, or fear that we won’t find something better. But what if staying in the wrong place is keeping you from GOD’s best?
Think about how plants grow. If a plant is in a pot that’s too small, its roots will get tangled, and it won’t flourish. It needs to be repotted to grow to its full potential. The same goes for us—sometimes, GOD calls us to move because where we are can no longer contain what He’s growing inside of us.
What to Do When You Feel Stuck
If you feel like your job isn’t elevating you, don’t ignore it. Here’s what you can do:
Pray for Clarity – Ask GOD to reveal whether this is a season of growth within your job or a sign that it’s time to move on. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust GOD and let Him direct our paths.
Seek Opportunities for Growth – Even if your job isn’t pushing you, look for ways to challenge yourself. Take a course, network with new people, or find a mentor who inspires you.
Prepare for What’s Next – If you know you’ve outgrown your job, start preparing for your next step. Update your resume, apply for new opportunities, and trust that GOD will open the right doors at the right time.
Have Faith in the Process – Change can be scary, but staying in a place that’s not growing you is even scarier. Trust that GOD has more for you. If He’s calling you higher, don’t be afraid to step into the unknown.
You were not created to stay in a place that keeps you from being your best self. If your job isn’t challenging, elevating, or encouraging your growth, it may be time to move.
Don’t settle for comfort when GOD is calling you to greater. Trust Him, take action, and watch how He positions you for something better.
Are you in a season where you feel stuck? Pray about it, seek wisdom, and be open to the next level GOD has for you.
Let’s keep walking forward in faith!
