Mustard Seed
Mark 10:52: “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately, he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
1 Corinthians 16:13: Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
Matthew 17:20: He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Faith is described as complete trust or confidence in something. Faith is choosing to believe. It means acting on what God says despite our opinions or education. Faith is acting on the truth, whether we feel it or not. The Bible says faith is believing what God says He will do.
When I think about faith, I think about a mustard seed. I’ve always heard that our faith should be the size of a mustard seed. Personally, I’ve never seen a mustard seed and didn’t know much about it other than our faith should be its size, so I did some research. I found out that a mustard seed is the smallest of seeds, but when it grows, it becomes the largest of garden plants and even turns into a tree. This little seed can grow up to 30 feet! So, if I have faith the size of this seed, I too can grow—to heights no one ever expected. This little seed represents the amount of faith you need to accomplish your goals and fulfill the destiny on your life.
I wanted to understand just how small this seed is, so I went to the store and bought a jar. I wanted you to hold this seed and see it. This seed represents faith. How many times have you truly stepped out on faith and done something outside of your normal routine? For me, this moment is a step of faith. I was really excited to speak a few weeks ago, but as the day approached, I got nervous and hoped Jacinda would forget. Usually, when you fear something, it’s a sign you need to do it. When you are scared out of your mind, go for it. When you just don’t know is often when you know the most. Stop overthinking faith. It’s as simple as the seed you hold in your hand.
Faith is a muscle that needs constant exercise. You can’t physically work it out on a treadmill or by doing squats, but you work it out by constantly stepping out.
Once you step out and do something outside your normal routine, you gain power and energy you never knew was there. That energy comes from a higher source, the source that created you. That move of faith activates your purpose, and you can’t stop after one step. You have to keep the faith rolling, and as you do, it gets stronger and stronger. Before you know it, you are living in your purpose and doing what you were created for. Exercise your faith. When faith is exercised, it will look like this (looks at bottle of mustard seeds).
We have to move so that the next generation can keep it going. We are not born for likes or follows, to get over a million views, or to be the next anybody. We are born to carry out an important mission that only we can do. Only you can do that certain thing. People can try, but no one can perfect it like you can. Faith is what all the greats before us had. They fought their fear with faith.
We gain faith that can only be given when we shut off the world and tap into who we are meant to be. I encourage you today to become someone great. Refuse to live in fear anymore and become who you were created to be. Once you step into your purpose, things will line up. Positions will form, and people will be blessed because you decided to step out. Many things and people could be saved if you stopped going with the flow and started moving with faith. What if you were called to end homelessness but were too afraid to step out and start a ministry that provided clothes and food to the homeless community? You could save so many people with your gift, but you are too busy watching and comparing your life with others. The answer to who you are is right here. Just tap in and step out. When you start to doubt, go to your local grocery store, pick up a jar of mustard seeds, and be reminded that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.
